Series: My Favourite Cities and What to Do in Them: Sao Paulo

Back

I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to travel to many beautiful locations all over the world. I want to be able to share my love for travel with others, and I’ve decided to do so through a new blog series highlighting some of my favourite cities.

This month’s feature city is the largest in South America – Sao Paulo, Brazil. The county’s lively financial centre is rich in culture and is an incredible city to experience.

Here are a couple things you absolutely must do if you ever find yourself in Sao Paulo:

Take in the stunning architecture

This urban innovation of a city is visually spectacular all around, with architectural gems from neo-Gothic cathedrals to modern skyscrapers. When I stay in Sao Paulo, I had the pleasure of staying in the beautiful Hotel Unique, a hotel that certainly lives up to its name.

This captivating experience of the senses includes rooms with modern designs that I have never encountered anywhere else. With floors sweeping up to meet the ceiling and a striking rooftop pool and lounge over looking the city, you are constantly surrounded by beauty.

In addition to the stunning, otherworldly design, the hotel is very focused on being eco-friendly. Some of their sustainable practices include serving seasonal food, using extensive recycling schemes – from the soap used in the guest’s rooms to the oil used to cook in the kitchen – and various elements of environmentally friendly design built into the architecture itself.

As the owner of multiple sustainable businesses, I always appreciate those who are forging ahead in eco-friendly practices.

Admire the beautiful street art

Another one of the defining characteristics of this city is the art that lives on its streets. While visiting, I embarked on an walking tour of the street art in the city that I will never forget.

The walls, buildings and sidewalks of Sao Paulo are covered in gorgeous, vibrant, eye-catching colours. Ranging from simple, bright, visually pleasing pieces to complicated political and philosophical statements, the artwork plays a large part in bringing this city to life.

Whenever travelling to a new city, try your best to soak up as much of the culture as possible, you never know what wonder you might experience. Sao Paulo never ceases to amaze me.

More of my favourite cities to come! Feel free to share your thoughts on Sao Paulo or any of your own favourite cities in the comment section below.
